With the start of the season 2018/19, Iván Pérez takes over the artistic leadership of the new Dance Theatre Heidelberg at Theater und Orchestra Heidelberg. Intendant Holger Schultze is very proud to have won this internationally renowned choreographer for Heidelberg. He is convinced that the success of the Tanzcompany, which he firmly anchored in Heidelberg, is further strengthened and the audience can look forward to interesting, exciting dance performances.
Pérez is known for his physical and emotional choreographies. This season, his performance BECOMING tours in theaters in the Netherlands, London and Taiwan. BECOMING is the third performance he creates with his team under the name INNE. With audience and critics acclaim, he launched INNE with The Inhabitants in the summer of 2016 at Operaestate festival in Italy. Before INNE, Iván created from production house Korzo, for example, Exhausing Space and Waiting for the Barbarians in collaboration with theatre director Michiel de Regt. International collaborations have always been part of his work. He made new creations with Ballet Moscow, Compañía Nacional de Danza and Balletboyz London. In spring 2018 he will create a new work for the Paris Opera Ballet.
"I plan to position the Dance Theater Heidelberg as a creative and innovative hub in the global dance world," says Pérez. For example, he will collaborate with inspiring new voices in the field of dance, visual arts, music, fashion and social science. He wants to establish partnerships with educational institutions to stimulate dance-theoretical research and communication about dance, as well as keep developing existing relationships with national and international theaters. His artistic team consists of Australian award-winning choreographer James Batchelor as his assistant and young Leipzig dramaturge Jenny Mahla. Together they will realize Pérez's vision, within the theme "generation Y, the Millennials".
